Paver & Brick Pressure Cleaning - Central Coast

Paver & Brick Pressure Cleaning

Those pavers you paid good money for? They’re still under there somewhere. Buried under dirt, moss, and that black grime that builds up between the joints.

Brick and paver surfaces cop it hard on the Central Coast. The humidity, the salt air, the shade from trees — it all adds up. Give it a year or two and your nice patio or driveway starts looking rough.

We clean pavers and bricks across the Central Coast every week. From fancy cobblestone driveways in Terrigal to standard clay pavers in Wyong. Paver and brick pressure cleaning brings back the original colour and makes your outdoor areas look properly maintained again.

Why Pavers and Bricks Get So Dirty

Pavers and bricks are porous. That means they soak up moisture like a sponge.

On the Central Coast, we get plenty of moisture. Morning dew, afternoon storms, humid nights. Water gets into the surface and stays there. Mould and algae love damp conditions. They move in and start spreading.

Then you’ve got the joints between pavers. Sand washes out over time and weeds push through. Dirt settles into the gaps. Ants build nests underneath. Before you know it, your patio looks more like a garden bed.

Areas with lots of tree cover get it worse. Suburbs like Ourimbah, Matcham, and Holgate have beautiful trees but the shade keeps surfaces damp longer. We’ve cleaned driveways in those areas that were basically green from end to end.

Brick walls and retaining walls have the same problem. They face the weather every day and the rough texture holds onto dirt and mould.

What We Clean

Paver and brick pressure cleaning covers all sorts of surfaces around your property:

Paver driveways — Clay pavers, concrete pavers, cobblestone. We clean the surface and can re-sand the joints after to keep weeds out.

Brick driveways — Older homes on the Central Coast often have brick driveways. These need careful pressure to avoid damaging the mortar.

Patio and entertaining areas — Get your outdoor space ready for guests. We remove the grime, food stains, and general buildup.

Pool surrounds — Pavers around pools get slippery from algae and chlorine splash. We clean them and make them safe to walk on.

Garden paths — Those stepping stones and brick paths through your garden. They get mossy and slippery fast.

Brick walls and fences — Rendered brick, exposed brick, feature walls. We adjust our technique based on the brick type and condition.

Retaining walls — Brick and block retaining walls collect dirt in every groove. Pressure cleaning makes them look new.

The Problem With DIY Paver Cleaning

You might be tempted to hire a pressure washer and do it yourself. We get it. Seems straightforward.

But pavers and bricks are tricky. Here’s what goes wrong:

Too much pressure damages the surface. Pavers have a sealed top layer that protects them. Blast it too hard and you strip that layer off. The paver becomes more porous and stains easier in the future.

Wrong technique leaves marks. Pressure washing in lines creates stripes. You end up with a pattern of clean and dirty that looks worse than before.

Sand gets blasted out of joints. The sand between pavers isn’t just for looks. It locks the pavers together and stops them moving. Pressure wash without care and you’ll need to re-sand everything.

Mortar damage on bricks. Old brick surfaces have soft mortar that erodes under high pressure. We see DIY jobs in Gosford and Woy Woy where the mortar’s been blown out completely.

We use the right pressure for each surface. Hot water to break down oils and grease. Proper technique that cleans evenly without leaving marks. And we re-sand paver joints when needed.

Common Stains on Pavers and Bricks

Moss and algae — The green and black stuff that grows in damp areas. Very common under trees and on south-facing surfaces. We treat and remove it.

Efflorescence — That white powdery stuff that appears on brick and pavers. It’s salt coming up through the surface. Pressure cleaning removes it but it can come back if there’s moisture underneath.

Oil stains — From cars, BBQs, or machinery. Oil soaks into porous surfaces fast. We use degreasers before pressure cleaning to pull it out.

Rust marks — From metal furniture, pot plants, or fertiliser. Rust needs special treatment — normal pressure cleaning can spread the stain.

Paint and sealant spills — Depends how old the spill is. Fresh is easier. Old paint might need multiple treatments or might not come out completely.

Tyre marks — Rubber deposits from hot tyres. Common on paver driveways. Heat and pressure together removes them.

Our Cleaning Process

We don’t just show up and start blasting. There’s a process that gets better results.

Assessment first. We look at the paver or brick type, how dirty it is, what kind of stains you’ve got. Different surfaces need different approaches.

Pre-treatment. For oil stains, mould, or heavy buildup, we apply treatment solutions first. These break down the grime so pressure cleaning works better.

Pressure cleaning. We use commercial hot water equipment. The right pressure for your surface, proper technique, even coverage.

Joint re-sanding. For pavers, we can top up the sand in the joints after cleaning. This keeps weeds out and locks everything together.
